HOLLYWOOD REFOCUSES ON WESTERNS, BOLSTERING LOCAL ECONOMIES

The founder and president of Ponderosa Films in Virginia, Carter Boehm has served as executive producer on films such as Broken Ghost and is responsible for the development of Yellowstone Film Ranch studios in Montana. At this film studio, Carter Boehm promotes the revival of the Western tradition that many big Hollywood names are working toward. Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, and Tom Hanks are just some of Hollywood’s actors and directors who are involved in the Western revival. Paired with the more recent push from studios looking for Westerns, this demonstrates that audiences are seeking a break from computer-graphics and superhero movies. Rather, they are looking for wide-open spaces that let them travel to new locations and experience the individualism that was popular in the past. This shift in audience demand has bolstered the shift in studio output in Hollywood. Horse wrangling and cattle herding teams have experienced an increase in business, thanks to studios producing more Western series and films. Viacom CBS plans on mimicking the success of Yellowstone with Kevin Costner, Netflix has two cowboy movies in the works starring Idris Elba, and Angelina Jolie recently starred in a Western production from Warner Bros. Many of these productions plan on being shot on-site so the local economies in Montana will enjoy the benefits of such a movement. Movie and show production not only brings plenty of jobs for locals, but significant amounts of money are spent on hospitality in looking after a large film crew.
