Disney is stepping up to the streaming plate with perks that audiences will enjoy. By revealing plans to create their ad-free service, they’ve already created a rivalry with the big players Netflix and Amazon.

Disney+ is exactly what it sounds like. Your favorite Disney productions all in one place. It will include new and original content, at one of the best prices found in the streaming video world. That’s right, even Marvel and Star Wars fans will have a reason to join.

Launch Date

Disney announced their release date in April of 2019 during a three-hour long event. On November 12, 2019, the much-anticipated streaming service will be available in the US.

The release date is viewed as a strategic move to get people to join. The timing coincides with the release of two major releases this year, including Frozen (November 22) and Star Wars Episode IX (December 20).

The company plans to release internationally but the details aren’t specified yet. There are plans to expand the service over two years. There’s no word on whether the content will be the exact same.

Exclusive Content

Disney+ will bring its star-powered, big-budget favorites. Their original content will include Marvel and Star Wars movies. Their first-day content will include Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark Worlds.

On launch day, Disney+ originals the Mandalorian and High School Musical: The Series will be available. The Mandalorian is the first live-action Star Wars series. They have more productions which will be released throughout the year.

Their original fan favorites are included in their content lineup. Subscribers will find all the shows and movies that were created or aired on the Disney Channel. There will also be shows from Disney owned brands like Pixar, ABC and National Geographic.

Disney is leaving out the R-rated content, including Deadpool. Fans of the rougher side of Disney productions can still catch their favorites on streaming service Hulu, which Disney has a financial stake in.

The Price

The brand new service will be cheaper than the most popular streaming services. It will cost $6.99 per month. Subscribers will have an option to save with a yearly payment of $69.99, which equals to $1.16 in savings.

The pricing gives Disney a competitive edge. You can join and leave your old services behind. Or, since it’s such a great deal, it makes a great addition to the services you’re already subscribed to.

The introduction of a streaming platform is a major step for the 95-year-old company. It’s constantly evolving to give television and movie lovers new and exciting options.
